About This

• The name is given because the stamens protrude from the center of the flower giving it a pincushion-like appearance. This variety, Double Rose, has lovely rose colored blooms, and it has long strong stems that make it great for cutting.
• Pincushion flowers are 32 inch tall annuals that grow in USDA zones 3 - 8.
• Scabiosa blooms all summer long for lots of color and blooms to cut. Pincushion seed can be started indoors 8 – 10 weeks before the last frost. Or, for areas with a very long growing season, start the seed outdoors after danger of frost has passed.
• Sowing Rate: 3 - 4 seeds per plant. Do not cover the seeds but gently press them into the soil. Keep seed moist until germination. With a temperature of 70F, germination is usually within 30 days.
